If you have children, encourage them to keep a donation box or bag in their closet. Whenever they have something that doesn’t fit or is in disrepair, they can drop it in the container for you to assess come closet cleaning time!
This simple job of managing their clothes will enable them to take control of their things and set them up for life to organize their closet/drawers regularly.
Keep a blue or opaque recycling bag in your closet for whenever you come across something that doesn’t fit or is no longer in style! I keep one for my clothing and one for my husband’s, as I donate them to different charities.
Here are a few charities in Ottawa which accept used clothing:
- Fairy Godmother – Formal/Prom Clothes
- Dress for Success – Business Clothes
- Mothercraft – Newborn and children’s clothes and items
- Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline® Program – Clothing and small household appliances
Look for these and similar organizations in your area for donating used clothes.
