Hi, my name is Heather Burke, and I’m a brain injury warrior.
You may have spotted me in Ottawa drinking tea or red wine and wearing either a hoodie with a huge front pocket or pieces from my capsule wardrobe.
I’ve been married to my best friend Brian for 40 years, and we’re owned by 4 wonderful fur babies.
Life gave me a big time out when I experienced multiple traumatic brain injuries within just a little over six months. If that wasn’t bad enough, these injuries caused me to fall and break my neck – it was a C2 fracture if you want to get technical. This is also referred to as a hangman’s fracture – need I say more?
But I’m still here, and with the help of a team and my own stubbornness, over the past 6+ years I’ve learned methods that have simplified my life and helped me become more organized. The purpose of this blog is to share the strategies that have helped me adapt to living with a brain injury. I hope that they can help you as well.
